Is it better to know the truth even if it hurts to hear?

I think that's where some secrets come from. Our own selfish desire to not want to hurt another person, or in turn hurt ourselves. What I'm asking is if it is fair to the unknowing person to withhold information that could change their emotions, or fears, or self doubts. I'm obviously not talking about insignificant information, but rather the information that we feel guilty about when it is held in.

But is it really better to know everything?

If we know all there is to know in a situation, we can't be vulnerable right? Or does knowing everything just create more tension and doubt because we have all the indicators and evidence to make guesses at the next event to happen? Which would drive someone crazy with ideas and theories...

All I know is that finding out the truth from someone other than the person who should have told you, hurts more than knowing it ever could...
